Ease Pediatric Ear Infections with Hummingbird TTs
Children often receive ear tubes to treat chronic ear infections, which is typically completed using general anesthesia. However, a new FDA-approved alternative called the Hummingbird Tympanostomy Tube System does not require this level of sedation.
What Makes the Hummingbird Different?
Conscious sedation is used during the insertion of the Hummingbird. The procedure is also quicker than traditional ear tube surgery. Because the Hummingbird can be inserted into the ear tube in a single pass, the procedure can be completed in a doctor’s office, and your child can return home later the same day.
What Studies Show
A clinical study found that:
· 100% of patients acceptably tolerated the procedure.
· 98% of children successfully received ear tubes in-office.
· 98% of parents would recommend the treatment to others.
How Does It Work?
Like traditional ear tubes, the Hummingbird drains excess fluid and creates additional ventilation behind a child’s eardrum. This reduces the risk of ear infections. The eardrum will push out the device within six to 18 months.
The Hummingbird usually works best for children older than six months and younger than three, but our team at Girgis ENT will work with your family to determine which treatment will be best for your child.
